Depression, the common cold of mental health!

This phrase is being thrown around recently. The problem with this statement is best captured by an author Paul Gilbert, he says:

“This comparison is unfortunate for it conveys the impression of a frequent but mild complaint. In reality… depression is not only the most frequent mental health problem, but is among the most serious.”

Depression is real and it is wide-spread. In fact it is said that one in five people will experience depression at some stage in their lives. This is the world that we live in. These people are our neighbours, our friends, our families and for some ourselves.

But how as Christians should we be responding? Is depression part of God’s plan? How should we respond if we have depression? How should we respond to those with depression? How can we help our friends and family that might struggle with depression? What does Jesus say about depression?

We are going to be looking at some of these questions at SN@P (Sunday night at St Pete’s) on Sunday the 25th of April at 5pm. All of the SN@P leaders would love it if you took this as an opportunity to invite your friends to hear about this important issue.
